"…I…" Amber couldn't deny the truth in Matthew's words.

 

Unable to argue, Amber's shoulders slumped. His resolve, already wavering, weakened further.

 

Matthew, seeing the young man's distress, continued, "You and Lord Ange are still teenagers without jobs. The world isn't kind enough to let you survive on hope alone. You've already used your credit card to get here, haven't you?"

 

Matthew's words hit home. Amber had indeed used it to fill the car with gas, buy bread just moments ago, and pay for the motel room they were staying in.

 

"That's how we tracked you down. Lord Lester ordered me to come with the traitor to bring you back."

 

"…Father…" Amber's eyes widened in shock as he looked up at Matthew.

 

Somewhere in his heart, he had foolishly believed his father would forgive him for this, that he would overlook such a small act of rebellion. But reality was far harsher.

 

A child, not yet graduated from high school, trying to survive on their own without any help—how could he have been so naive? He had acted impulsively, desperate to escape, without thinking about the future. And now, it wasn't just about him anymore.

 

Ange was with him. He had someone he needed to protect. Someone whose life was now entwined with his.

 

Naively thinking everything would somehow work out was not an option.

 

—And yet...

 

"…But I won't go back as long as our ties to Mantegna remain. I may be just a child who can't do anything right now, but I'm determined. For Ange's sake, I'll do whatever it takes, no matter the cost."

 

Amber's desperate plea softened Matthew's stern expression, and a small, affectionate smile crept onto his face.

 

"If you're willing to do anything for Lord Ange, then start by accepting this money."

 

"But—"

 

Amber hesitated. He believed that if he didn't survive on his own, without relying on anyone's help, it would all be meaningless.

 

"Lord Ian wishes for you to live freely. That's why he's defying Lord Lester's orders to secretly support you," Matthew explained gently.

 

"My brother… really said that?" Amber's voice wavered as something warm and overwhelming stirred deep in his chest, making it hard to speak.

 

"Yes. So, for now, please focus on securing a foundation for your new life. If you still feel conflicted, you can always repay the money little by little once you start working," Matthew suggested with a comforting tone.

 

"Do you think my brother… has forgiven me for betraying the Tikaani family?" Amber asked, his voice filled with doubt.

 

"Of course he has. Lord Ian told me that once he takes over as head of the family, he plans to change the old, oppressive ways of the werewolf clan. Even if you must sever ties with your family for now, I believe a day will come soon when the two of you will stand side by side again."

 

"Does Father know about this?" Amber asked, feeling a flicker of hope.

 

"No, Lord Lester knows nothing. That's why only you and I, Lord Aaron, share Lord Ian's secret."
