"What's this?" Amber looked up at Matthew in confusion, his gaze lingering on the thick envelope.

 

"Lord Ian instructed me to give you this. He said it's for your living expenses, for the time being."

 

"…"

 

—For the time being.

 

The weight of those words sank heavily into Amber's chest, leaving him speechless.

 

Amber had taken Ange, his brother's soon-to-be bonded mate, and fled from their home. It had felt like an act of betrayal. Surely Ian had sent Matthew to bring them back. And yet, here was this envelope—an unexpected gesture of support.

 

Why would Ian do such a thing for them? Amber couldn't grasp his brother's true intentions.

 

"…Lord Aaron?" Matthew's calm voice broke the silence.

 

"I… I can't accept this."

 

Despite the circumstances, Amber couldn't bring himself to take it. Even if Ian's gesture was sincere, Amber felt like he didn't deserve it. After all, he had betrayed his brother.

 

"Lord Ian is deeply worried about you both," Matthew said gently. "He told me that if you two have already bonded, it would be too cruel to separate you."

 

"What…?" Amber's eyes widened in surprise as he lifted his head, the disbelief plain on his face.

 

"My brother… said that? I thought he would be furious with me…"

 

But Matthew shook his head slowly. "Lord Aaron, do you believe you've made the wrong decision?"

 

"…No. I don't think what I did was wrong…"

 

The Tikaani family, while outwardly a respectable business, was deeply entangled with the Mantegna crime family, their influence stretching far into high society. Their grand parties were not only for show—they catered to the desires of VIPs with high-class prostitutes, both men and women. But what had driven Amber to leave was discovering the family's dark secret: the illegal use of "heat-inducing drugs" on Omegas brought in to breed heirs.

 

Amber had long suspected something was amiss, but seeing it with his own eyes was too much. He couldn't forgive it. Especially when the one he loved had almost fallen victim to that very cruelty.

 

Even his gentle brother had been involved in such things—it was unthinkable, unforgivable. Amber couldn't accept that the brother he admired had become part of something so vile.

 

He knew it was nearly impossible to survive in that city without playing by those rules, but Amber had wanted nothing more than to break free of those suffocating ties. And there was no way he could leave Ange behind struggling in that hellish environment.

 

—That's why...

 

"I left that house to find happiness with Ange," Amber said quietly, conviction in his voice.

 

Matthew, having listened patiently, responded with a firm tone. "Then, all the more reason you must accept this money."

 

After all, even if Ange had been forcibly bonded with the use of drugs, Matthew explained, had he stayed in that house, he wouldn't have had to worry about food, shelter, or a place to live.
