Chapter 15 - Ange, My Angel

Translator's Note:

Hello, I hope you've all been doing well.

Here you go, and I wish you a good read.

The First Night (1)

That morning, Ange had seen both Ian and Amber at breakfast, but as the day passed and the sun began to set, neither of them showed up again.

At breakfast, Ian had told him, "I'll come to your room around ten tonight." Later, after Ian retreated to his study, Amber whispered secretly to Ange, "When the sun sets, make sure to lock your door tightly. No matter who knocks, do not open it."

"What if it's you knock?" Ange had replied, half-teasing, playing off Amber's choice of words.

But Amber's eyes were serious. "Even if I come, don't open it."

At the time, Ange had laughed it off, thinking Amber was just teasing him.

Now, reflecting on it, he realized something was off today. Even the usually busy servants were nowhere to be seen.

Neither Ian nor Amber appeared at lunch, and Ange sat alone at the large table with a solitary meal prepared for him.

When dinner came, the same scene repeated itself—no sign of the two brothers, only one plate set at the long dining table.

"This is strange," Ange muttered to himself.

Outside, darkness spread across the landscape. It had rained since morning, the sky thick with heavy clouds. Though the rain had stopped by nightfall, the full moon was still hidden, nowhere to be seen, leaving the surroundings enveloped in deep shadow.

It was almost ten—he had to return to his room.

Ange still hadn't experienced his heat, and for that, he was secretly relieved.

──Thank goodness...

With this, he could avoid becoming Ian's bonded mate, and hopefully, he could return to the shop tomorrow.

When Ian would come to his room, he'd talk to him through the door without opening it, explaining that his heat hadn't yet arrived.

Would Ian be disappointed? Or would he simply say, "Well, there's nothing to be done," and give up?

Ange decided not to mention Amber—he didn't want to cause any pain to Ian, who had shown nothing but kindness toward him, at least not tonight.

There was still time. After Amber graduates from high school, once they both are a little older, they could deal with their shared feelings then.

With these thoughts in mind, Ange returned to his room and, just as Amber had instructed, locked the door securely from the inside.

The antique grandfather clock* in the first-floor salon began to chime, signaling the hour.

[T/N: A grandfather clock is a tall, freestanding clock that typically features a pendulum and is known for its accuracy and distinct chime. It usually has a long case, often made of wood, and is often considered a decorative piece as well as a functional timepiece. The term "grandfather clock" comes from the song "My Grandfather's Clock," which highlights the sentimental value and connection many people have with these clocks.

Am I the only one who didn't know this?]

Ten o'clock.

As if on cue, a knock sounded on his door.

"Ange, it's me," came Ian's familiar low, gentle voice from the other side.
