Chapter 50

 

 

When Ange next opened his eyes, the sun was already high in the sky. Its bright rays streamed through the car window, illuminating his face.

 

"Ugh… it's so bright…"

 

"Awake?" Amber's large hand reached over from the driver's seat, ruffling Ange's hair. Ange blinked sleepily, glancing over at him.

 

"Amber… have you taken any breaks at all?"

 

"Nope. But we're already in Northschist," Amber said with a calm smile.

 

"…What?" Ange sat up, surprised, and looked out the windshield.

 

The car was descending a gentle slope from a small hill. Beyond the glass, a new, unfamiliar landscape stretched out before them. Fields lined the road, dotted with occasional houses, and in the distance, buildings clustered more densely, likely marking the town center.

 

This must be the heart of Northschist.

 

They had driven over 519 miles north along Route 005, the road that separated the country from east to west. This place was a world apart from Eastschist. Far from being a bustling northern metropolis, Northschist was a small, isolated town that had seen little in the way of commerce or development.

 

Would this town welcome them?

 

Both Amber and Ange stared silently at the long stretch of road ahead. Amber must have been thinking the same thing.

 

Suddenly, Amber's hand rested on Ange's, which was lying on his lap.

 

"We'll be happy. No matter what," Amber said, his amber eyes flicking towards Ange for just a moment, his hand tightening around Ange's with quiet determination.

 

"Yeah," Ange replied, squeezing his hand in return, nodding with a soft smile.

 

They were both nervous, but more than that, they shared a growing certainty that as long as they were together, there was nothing to fear.

 

"Ange, look over there. The mountains still have snow on them," Amber said, pointing toward the horizon.

 

"Wow… they're beautiful," Ange replied softly, his gaze following Amber's.

 

Beyond the town stretched a vast forest, and encircling the town and the woods were the majestic Northschist mountains, their snow-capped peaks glistening under the clear sky.

 

"They say beyond those mountains, past the sea and even farther north, is where the werewolves' lineage first began," Amber explained, his voice low with a touch of reverence.

 

The sight of the distant snow-covered peaks reflected the promise of a new beginning—a land full of history and mystery, waiting for them to step into its embrace.
