"I Want to Have Another Baby!"

He Mingyu's parents lived in a three-story house within a compound, guarded by tall and vigilant soldiers at the entrance.

Both sides of the courtyard were lined with tall pines, their branches swaying in the cold wind but still remaining vibrantly green.

The driver parked the car downstairs.

As Tan Qing hopped out of the car, a group of soldiers, marching at night, heads held high, passed by, chanting slogans.

Wow.

So handsome.

Tan Qing watched curiously for a while, and as the soldiers were about to walk past him, his attention shifted. He lifted his foot, as if to sneakily follow them.

Just as he took that first step, the headlights of a black sedan parked at the entrance suddenly turned on, high beams flashing.

The lights blinked a few more times.

A few seconds later, the car door opened, and He Mingyu stepped out holding Tan Jiji.

Tan Qing: "…"

He immediately pulled back his foot, shrank his neck, and trotted over to He Mingyu, blurting out, "Oh, you just got here too? What a coincidence!"

The squad of soldiers passing by had also noticed the man stepping out of the car. The officer in charge, wearing a military rank, ran over and saluted He Mingyu.

Tan Qing's eyes filled with admiration.

He Mingyu had intended to dismiss the officer with a wave, but noticing Tan Qing's expression, he changed his mind. "In training?"

The officer stood at attention and replied, "Reporting! We are currently on a night run."

He Mingyu casually asked, "Is your family also in J City?"

The officer chuckled and shook his head. "No, most of the soldiers here are stationed away from their homes. Our families aren't here."

He Mingyu nodded. "Do you miss them?"

The officer grinned. "Of course we do! But there's not much we can do about it…"

Perhaps it was He Mingyu's unusually approachable demeanor that night, but the officer's gaze lingered on Tan Jiji, who was playing with a rattle in He Mingyu's arms. He finally couldn't resist asking, "Mr. He, is that your son?"

He Mingyu followed the officer's gaze and looked down at Tan Jiji, who was happily playing.

Without missing a beat, He Mingyu adjusted his hold, lifting Tan Jiji slightly in a proud, almost showy manner. "Yes, my son. Three months and twelve days old."

Tan Jiji, who had just been riding on his grandfather's shoulders earlier, had fallen in love with the sensation of being lifted up. And He Mingyu's arms were definitely stronger than Grandpa's.

Like a soft little dumpling, Tan Jiji giggled, his mouth wide open in joy, babbling a series of "Papa! Papa! Papa!"

"So young and already speaking so clearly!" The officer, clearly intrigued by this unexpected gossip about He Mingyu's family, was genuinely impressed. "Mr. He, you're doing an amazing job raising him. I never imagined you'd be so hands-on with your child. When my son was three months old, we couldn't understand a word he was saying!"

He Mingyu's expression showed no sign of humility. In fact, he nodded and, with a meaningful glance at Tan Qing, said, "It's mostly because the child's mother is irresponsible. I had no choice but to raise him myself."

Tan Qing, who had been using He Mingyu as a windbreaker while playing a game on his phone: "..."

The officer was visibly stunned. In all his years of service, he had never expected to have such a casual conversation with someone like He Mingyu. Looking back and forth between the adorable Tan Jiji and He Mingyu's unreadable expression, the officer hesitantly offered, "Well… maybe the child's mother is just young and still learning how to be a good parent? But if she's willing to have a child with you, she must really care about you."

He Mingyu seemed doubtful. "Is that so?"

The officer quickly nodded. "Definitely! My wife gave me a big, healthy boy! She dotes on me endlessly!"

After a brief moment of contemplation, He Mingyu actually extended his hand to shake the officer's. "Thank you for your guidance."

The officer: "..."

He floated away in disbelief.

With his human shield gone, Tan Qing felt the cold biting at his fingers. He tucked his phone into his pocket and, eyes sparkling, stared at Tan Jiji's plump little cheeks, clearly tempted.

He Mingyu, wrapping Tan Jiji snugly in a blanket, warned, "If you're thinking of warming your hands on the baby's face, I suggest you reconsider."

Tan Qing: "..."

Feeling guilty, Tan Qing averted his gaze and noticed the old-fashioned blanket draped over Tan Jiji. Without thinking, he exclaimed, "Wow, where'd you find such an ugly blanket?"

He Mingyu: "..."

After a pause, He Mingyu replied, "My mom gave it to him."

Tan Qing's attitude shifted faster than flipping through a book. "Oh my! How could there be such a lovely blanket in the world?"

He Mingyu: "..."

Seeing that He Mingyu wasn't paying him any attention, Tan Qing glanced up at the house and whispered, "So… are we going upstairs now?"

He Mingyu gave him a cold look and replied, "No, my parents go to bed before ten every night. It's too late now."

Tan Qing: "Oh…"

After waiting a bit longer, He Mingyu noticed that Tan Qing had no intention of continuing the conversation, as if the entire situation had nothing to do with him.

He Mingyu bent down and kissed Tan Jiji's chubby cheek, then gently placed him back in the child seat inside the car. Closing the door, he turned back to Tan Qing and said, "I had Lin Yu go pick you up, but he couldn't reach you. He tried calling your phone, and I called as well, but you didn't answer. We had agreed to meet at my parents' house at 8:30 tonight, but now it's already eleven."

He paused, then added, "Tan Qing, don't you think you owe me an explanation?"

Tan Qing's eyes looked almost identical to Tan Jiji's. But under the moonlight, He Mingyu realized that Tan Qing's eyes were actually much more beautiful than Tan Jiji's.

Because in Tan Jiji's eyes, there was only the pure innocence of a child.

But in Tan Qing's eyes, there was a mischievous blend of cunning and feigned innocence.

Tan Qing was still wearing the silver suit from the banquet earlier in the day, now dirtied in places with smudges of soil. The once pristine suit now looked somewhat messy.

During the day, the sun had provided warmth, but as night fell, the temperature dropped, and the wind grew stronger.

Tan Qing, shivering in the cold, looked quite pitiful as he tried to stay warm.

He rubbed his nose and looked up with a pitiful expression, meekly saying, "I-I'm sorry?"

He Mingyu, however, wasn't so easily convinced. "Sorry for what?"

Tan Qing: "…"

Though he had learned from TV shows that in situations like this, one should apologize, the shows never explained what exactly to apologize for.

Sigh.

Human logic is so hard to grasp.

Tan Qing hung his head and thought long and hard, eventually muttering, "He Mingyu, I'm so cold, so, so cold…"

He Mingyu, wearing a thick black coat, looked warm and cozy, making Tan Qing envious.

He Mingyu glanced down at Tan Qing, hesitated for a moment, and then pulled him a step closer.

Then, he grabbed Tan Qing's wrists and placed his hands inside his coat pockets.

Tan Qing, who had been using He Mingyu as a windbreaker, now found his hands comfortably set, and his head resting on He Mingyu's back.

He took a deep, satisfied breath, basking in the warmth.

He Mingyu's body stiffened slightly as Tan Qing leaned against him. "Is it warm enough?" he asked.

Tan Qing replied honestly, "If you wrapped me up in your coat too, it would be even warmer!"

With his back to Tan Qing, He Mingyu's lips curved slightly, but his voice remained cool. "Alright. If you can't figure out what you did wrong in the next thirty seconds, you'll go back and stand in place in the cold to think it over."

Tan Qing: "…"

Immediately clinging to He Mingyu like a koala, Tan Qing cried, "No, no, I'll think! I'll think right now! Waaaah!"

He Mingyu was used to Tan Qing's antics by now and didn't even flinch. He began counting softly, "Thirty."

"Twenty-nine."

"…"

Tan Qing's breath warmed the back of He Mingyu's neck. "I-I've got it! I shouldn't have been late!"

He Mingyu responded with a soft "Mhm," but added, "That's not the only thing. Twenty-four, twenty-three…"

Tan Qing hurriedly added, "And I shouldn't have broken our agreement!"

He Mingyu: "What else?"

Tan Qing, in a very small voice, whispered, "I shouldn't have wandered off…"

He Mingyu paused. "Where did you go?"

Tan Qing pushed his hands deeper into He Mingyu's pockets, sheepishly replying, "I went to the hospital…"

He Mingyu's voice remained calm, giving no hint of emotion. "And why did you go to the hospital?"

Tan Qing still didn't fully understand why men couldn't visit the obstetrics and gynecology department.

But after being ridiculed so much at the hospital, he really didn't want to tell He Mingyu.

And the matter with Rong Jinkang was definitely off-limits.

After stammering for a while, Tan Qing started, "I went to…"

He Mingyu cut him off, "To the obstetrics and gynecology department?"

Tan Qing instantly flared up in anger, "What?! Did Rong Sheng sell me out?!"

He Mingyu pulled Tan Qing's hands out of his pockets, turned around, and looked at him expressionlessly. "What were you doing in there?"

Tan Qing: "…"

Tan Qing had never seen He Mingyu so serious before.

It really felt like the warning signs of a long-term meal ticket about to run out.

This was serious.

Tan Qing quickly ran through his thoughts and came to a critical decision: he couldn't afford to lose this financial stability before securing another source.

His eyes darted about, and then he flashed He Mingyu a dazzling, charming smile before smoothly blurting, "Because... um, I wanted the doctor to check if I could have another baby!"

"…"

The air between them fell silent.

It seemed He Mingyu hadn't expected such a response. His Adam's apple bobbed as he spoke again, "A-another baby?"

Tan Qing, meanwhile, began inching stealthily toward the car door. "Mm-hmm! I wasn't sure if giving birth to Tan Jiji might've affected me. So, I wanted to check, you know, in case I could still have kids, whether it's with you or… someone else!"

He Mingyu: "..."

The momentary calm on He Mingyu's face darkened again. Grinding his teeth, he asked icily, "With someone else? Who are you planning to have kids with?"

Tan Qing, having stealthily made his way to the car door, found that it wasn't locked. He quickly opened it and slipped inside.

Scooping Tan Jiji into his arms, Tan Qing huddled with the child by the window, sticking out his tongue playfully at He Mingyu from inside the car, "I'm not telling you! Nyah-nyah!"

He Mingyu: "..."
