"Ah… I'll Register for Obstetrics and Gynecology."
When He Mingyu pulled up his phone to make a call, Yan Jianbai had just parked the car at the hospital.
Tan Qing, having already ordered a super-compact curling iron online while in the car, had neatly tucked away his tails and was sitting primly in the passenger seat, curiously looking around.
After stopping the car, Yan Jianbai glanced at the hospital's outpatient building and asked, "Are you going to kill him?"
"Wow, are you a savage or something?"
Tan Qing blinked innocently at Yan Jianbai, his bright eyes twinkling mischievously under the streetlights. "I'm a good socialist demon, you know. I don't eat people."
Yan Jianbai: "..."
After a moment of thought, Yan Jianbai asked, "Are you planning to crush him with Marx's iron fist?"
Tan Qing looked confused. "Who's Marx?"
Yan Jianbai: "..."
Stunned by Tan Qing's shocking ignorance, Yan Jianbai was momentarily speechless.
Tan Qing, however, didn't seem to care whether he'd left Yan Jianbai speechless. He checked his phone for the time, pulled on a mask and hat, and opened the car door to get out.
After taking a few steps, he turned back to the car, knocking on the window with two fingers.
Yan Jianbai, trying to regain his composure, rolled down the window and flashed a charming smile. "What's up, Qingqing? Changed your mind about going on a date with me?"
Tan Qing rubbed his nose. "No, I just remembered… Do you snakes like eating human dicks?"
Yan Jianbai: "..."
Tan Qing gestured vaguely, sensing he hadn't been clear, and added, "I haven't seen one myself, but if he's still virile at sixty, there must be something special about it, right?"
With a serious expression on his beautiful face, Tan Qing enthusiastically tried to sell the idea. "I mean, humans say you are what you eat, right? Maybe you guys could use it more?"
Yan Jianbai: "..."
His face turned green with anger, venomous fangs glinting as he hissed, "What did you just say?"
Sigh.
Another failed sales pitch.
Tan Qing waved dismissively, dejected. "Fine, fine, if you won't eat it, I won't cut it off. Let him keep it as a decoration."
Yan Jianbai was so choked up he couldn't speak for a long moment.
When he finally recovered, he realized Tan Qing was still lingering by the car, staring at him through the window.
Feeling touched for a brief moment, Yan Jianbai asked, "What? Worried I might choke to death on your nonsense?"
Tan Qing, standing up straight with a complicated and disappointed look, shook his head sincerely. "Not really… I was just hoping if you did, I'd get a free snack."
Yan Jianbai angrily slammed the door, cutting off any further conversation.
Tan Qing smacked his lips and skipped cheerfully into the hospital.
Inside, the atmosphere was chaotic, with the sounds of people talking, directives being shouted to maintain order, and the occasional cry filling the air.
Beyond the main building, there was a large garden behind the outpatient clinic.
By now, it was nighttime, and only a few dim streetlights cast a yellowish glow over the garden.
It was cold, and the place was empty.
Tan Qing sat on the bench, swinging his legs idly, his eyes drifting over the happenings inside each hospital room.
Hmm…
No, not this one. Not this one either.
Whoa! What are that couple doing in that room!?
That's so not in line with socialist values!
Tan Qing stared disapprovingly for a few moments.
Reluctantly, he shifted his attention to the next private room.
It's here.
Just as he was about to change his sitting position, he fished his phone out of his pocket. There were numerous unread messages, but the top one wasn't from He Mingyu.
Hisssssss: "Why are you helping Rong Sheng? Feeling sorry for him?"
Bored in the cold wind, Tan Qing quickly typed back:
Qingqing Didn't Eat Meat Again Today: "Because… people are fun! Hehehe."
Humans were fascinating creatures.
They experienced joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness, understanding the complexities of love, loss, and separation.
But great demons didn't.
They were inherently cold-blooded and varied in temperament.
They didn't concern themselves with human emotions, love, or hatred.
Tan Qing possessed all the characteristics of a great demon.
The only difference was that, sometimes, he enjoyed getting involved in the hustle and bustle of things.
Mostly to amuse himself.
Hisssssss: "???"
Qingqing Didn't Eat Meat Again Today: "Crawl less, think more. It's good for the brain."
Hisssssss: "..."
It seemed Yan Jianbai had a moment of existential doubt about his philosophy on being a demon, as he didn't reply to Tan Qing's last message.
Satisfied, Tan Qing carefully tucked his phone back into his pocket and looked up.
He watched as the lights inside that VIP hospital room went out, and in the blink of an eye, he transformed into a gray-furred fox, blending into the shadows of the night.
Though his fur was a mix of gray and black, his eyes gleamed with an extraordinary brightness.
Taking advantage of the cover of night, the little fox swiftly scaled the hospital's exterior wall.
With a quick flick of his fluffy tail, he skillfully hooked it onto the window frame, using his nimble paws to pry the window open.
Hanging upside down, the little fox peeked inside with his large, jet-black eyes.
Then, with an effortless leap, he slipped into the room.
And just as he entered, the surveillance cameras in the hospital room flickered, turning into a screen of static.
Both Hong Yue and Rong Jinkang's other lover had already left, and the two caretakers had dozed off nearby.
Rong Jinkang lay on the bed, the monitor beside him showing stable vitals, though he remained in a deep sleep.
Tan Qing moved silently to Rong Jinkang's side.
He was about to reach out when he seemed to remember something and fished out a pair of disposable gloves from his pocket.
Grinning slyly, he slid his paws under the blanket.
After a bit of fumbling, his hand found its target—Rong Jinkang's pride, which was still "robust" at sixty.
Tan Qing gave it a serious squeeze, measuring the length and diameter with his palm.
After careful consideration, he concluded that the women had exaggerated.
It didn't feel as good as He Mingyu's, though he hadn't actually touched He Mingyu's yet…
And from the looks of it, it was far inferior to Rong Sheng's.
Sigh.
Those women had such poor taste.
Shaking his head without a shred of regret, Tan Qing crushed the spongy tissue inside with a firm squeeze.
Once finished, he felt the crumbled remnants, then dramatically whispered, "Oh dear, how could such a tragedy happen? A heartbreaking, inhumane disaster…"
And with that, he slipped out through the window faster than he had entered.
Before leaving, he even bent over, using his fluffy tail to wipe away his little paw prints.
It was a flawless job.
By the time two security guards came to check the room, alerted by the malfunctioning cameras, the caretakers were roused from their slumber.
The four of them exchanged glances, relieved to find Rong Jinkang perfectly fine in bed. They sighed in relief and returned to their sleep.
Meanwhile, Tan Qing had returned to the garden where he carefully washed his paws in a fountain. Then, with hands tucked in his pockets, he swaggered openly toward the outpatient building.
In the dead of night, only the emergency department remained in operation, but it was noticeably busier than usual.
After having only taken a glance around the first time, this was Tan Qing's first real foray into the outpatient building, and everything felt fresh and new to him.
Caught in the crowd, Tan Qing was pushed along until he was sandwiched in the line for registration. Eventually, he found himself face-to-face with the registration desk.
The young nurse behind the counter, looking weary, raised her head impatiently. However, upon seeing the half of Tan Qing's face that was visible, her tone softened. "Sir, which department would you like to register for?"
Which department?
Tan Qing earnestly looked himself up and down.
After a thoughtful pause, he sincerely gave the name of the only department he knew and had ever visited in this world: "Ah… I'll register for obstetrics and gynecology."
The nurse: "..."
Such a handsome guy.
Already married so young.
Why overthink things like this?
The nurse, slightly disappointed, cast Tan Qing another glance before asking, "Are you registering for your wife? If she's pregnant and can't come in person, you can show me her ID."
Tan Qing quickly shook his head, explaining, "No, no! It's not for my wife! I'm registering for myself!"
The nurse: "..."
No matter how handsome he was, after working the night shift for so long, the nurse was starting to get annoyed. "Sir, as you can see, the emergency department is very busy. Please don't disrupt our work, okay?"
Tan Qing: "..."
Having once actually registered at a hospital's obstetrics and gynecology department, and only ever at that department, Tan Qing was confused.
Boo hoo.
Why was he being scolded for telling the truth?
Just as the people in line were growing impatient with how long Tan Qing was taking and began to complain, a voice suddenly called out from the other side of the crowd.
"Tan Qing?"
That person had likely been busy all day, as his voice was tinged with hoarseness.
Tan Qing turned around and instantly spotted Rong Sheng standing on the other side of the crowd.
Rong Sheng had changed out of the deep purple suit he'd worn earlier in the day and was now dressed in a black overcoat.
Under the hospital's harsh fluorescent lights, he looked worn out.
Perhaps sensing the peculiarity of the situation, Rong Sheng didn't wait. He made his way over to Tan Qing and pulled him out of the queue. "You came to register this late? He Mingyu didn't come with you?"
Tan Qing: "..."
Well, about that...
Tan Qing awkwardly rubbed his nose.
Before he could say a word, an impatient man with a thick northeastern accent standing nearby blurted out, "Are you two together? You both look like you're well-off! What, are you guys crazy? Two grown men registering at the obstetrics and gynecology department?!"
Tan Qing: "..."
Rong Sheng: "..."
Rong Sheng couldn't help but chuckle at first.
However, the smile barely lasted a second before it froze on his face.
Over the years, Rong Sheng had become quite skilled at dealing with people. He quickly apologized on Tan Qing's behalf and led him out of the outpatient building.
A few times, he tried to quicken his pace, but each time he glanced at Tan Qing, he slowed down again.
It wasn't until they got into the car that Rong Sheng took off his coat and draped it over Tan Qing's shoulders. He hesitated for a moment before forcing a smile. "You've been staying at He Mingyu's place recently, right? Are you sneaking off to the obstetrics department because you're afraid of him finding out…?"
Tan Qing: "..."
Tan Qing shook his head frantically. "No, really, I'm not!"
He patted his own flat stomach for emphasis, showing Rong Sheng. "Look! Flat as can be!"
Startled, Rong Sheng quickly grabbed Tan Qing's hand away from his belly. "Okay, okay! No need to worry, I get it. I'm staying at the hospital tonight to keep my mom company. I'll have the driver take you back to He Mingyu's."
Hearing that there was a free ride, Tan Qing instantly beamed and cheerfully said, "Great! Have the driver drop me off at He Mingyu's parents' place, then!"
Rong Sheng: "..."
After a brief moment of speechlessness, Rong Sheng nodded.
Tan Qing, pleased with the ride he'd scored, left in the car.
Rong Sheng stood there in silence, watching his car disappear around the corner of the hospital's entrance.
He stood for quite a while, only realizing how chilled he had become from the wind when he finally shook his head with a soft chuckle. Taking out his phone, he dialed He Mingyu.
He Mingyu answered quickly, but his tone was rather cold: "What is it?"
Rong Sheng smirked and said casually, "What's the deal? You don't want to talk to a brother? You want to talk to Tan Qing instead?"
He Mingyu immediately asked, "Did you run into him?"
Rong Sheng felt a dryness in his throat as he forced out a couple of coughs before replying, "Yeah, I just saw him at the hospital. He came alone to register at the obstetrics and gynecology department."
After saying that, Rong Sheng finally managed to smooth out his words. "Hey, Old He, are you even human? You weren't around when he was having the first kid, and now you're making him register alone for the second… Hey? Hey, hey!"
Rong Sheng: "Damn!"
He Mingyu had hung up on him.
Author's Note: Mini Theater:
He Mingyu: Suddenly betrayed?
Tan Qingqing: Suddenly pregnant?
He Mingyu: Come here. (Fiercely slaps the bed)
Tan Qingqing: It's not me! I didn't! I'm really not pregnant! Whimper, whimper...
And thus, today's Mr. He's hat has officially turned a darker shade of green. Congratulations, congratulations!
