The Meeting

After half a month of this quiet life, Lu Li finally decided to re-enter the Cosmic Net and speak with "Parting Sorrow."

Although the truth he'd uncovered was unexpected, he didn't want to simply forget part of his memory. After all, it was his—he had the right to know everything. Avoiding the issue would solve nothing.

But before he could reach out to Parting Sorrow, General Zhang had already grown impatient, arranging for someone to contact him directly. The moment Lu Li logged into the Cosmic Net, he received a message from Parting Sorrow directing him to a location nearby—a mansion not far from the villa district.

While Qin Lu Star was a private planet, it was also a prosperous one. Before he lost his memory, Lu Li had already been Qin Lu's master, making it easy for General Zhang's people to infiltrate.

Had it not been for the need to avoid alarming anyone, General Zhang would have had someone contact him the very day he returned.

Lu Li accepted the invitation, choosing to leave openly in front of An Ming rather than slipping out while Qin Yu was away.

If he didn't, An Ming would surely follow him like a hawk.

He now understood why An Ming had been suspicious of him. Knowing the truth, Lu Li realized that An Ming had been waiting for him to slip up all along. But he didn't resent him; they were just on different sides.

After receiving Qin Yu's permission, An Ming indeed didn't follow him.

Once he left the villa, Lu Li wandered nearby for a while, then moved to a more distant area, ensuring he wasn't being tailed before heading to the mansion.

Although he didn't know the person he was meeting, that person certainly recognized him. The moment Lu Li entered, he was spotted, though the man didn't immediately approach.

After observing from a corner for two minutes, He Jianbai finally confirmed that Lu Li truly had amnesia. Just as he was about to signal him, Lu Li spotted and approached him directly.

"Is it you?" Lu Li asked, with about eighty percent certainty in his tone.

He Jianbai nodded, not surprised. Though Lu Li had lost his memory, his instincts and skills were still intact.

"What's the situation with your memory loss?" He Jianbai led Lu Li to a secluded room he'd booked in advance and got straight to the point.

Lu Li recounted the incident of his head injury. Though it seemed a bit too coincidental, he trusted that Qin Yu wouldn't lie to him.

He Jianbai seemed to agree and wasted no more time on the issue, moving quickly to relay General Zhang's instructions. "Our plan can't be delayed any longer. General Zhang wants you to act as soon as possible."

"I think you're mistaken about something," Lu Li responded calmly.

"What?" He Jianbai looked at him, puzzled.

"Meeting you and discussing this doesn't mean I actually trust you. I may have lost my memory, but unless you can provide concrete proof of my real identity, I'm afraid I can't help you." Lu Li's voice was direct—he was here to get clarity about who he really was.

"Even if you have lost your memory, don't forget that you're still a citizen of the Federation. Isn't it your duty as a Federation citizen to help strengthen your country?" He Jianbai's brow furrowed, showing his displeasure with Lu Li's response.

"I am a Federation citizen, but I am also Qin Yu's lawful partner." He might have lost his memory, but he wasn't a fool.

"Fine, I understand. I'll report this to the General," He Jianbai said, his face darkening.

Lu Li couldn't stay out long, so after making his point, he left.

He Jianbai then contacted Parting Sorrow on the Cosmic Net, who in turn reached out to General Zhang to convey Lu Li's position.

"General, Lu Li seems uncooperative after his memory loss. What if this attitude jeopardizes our plans?" Shen Yuanjie's face darkened when he heard of Lu Li's rejection. After years of preparation, how could they allow their plan to be thwarted by one of their own?

"No need to worry. I anticipated Lu Li's reaction," General Zhang said dismissively. "He's always been cautious, and his amnesia only heightened that caution. Fortunately, we've already been preparing for this since two weeks ago." For the General, these minor setbacks were inconsequential; if things had been too easy, he'd be more suspicious.

For the rise of the Federation, they could afford to wait.

However, the plan couldn't be delayed for too long, or they'd risk unexpected changes. Having received his orders, He Jianbai began making preparations.

Unaware of the storm that lay ahead, Lu Li returned home that day and behaved as if nothing unusual had happened. He ate, drank, and slept as usual, occasionally passing the time on the Cosmic Net. Most of the time, Qin Yu stayed close by, saying little, but a rare warmth filled the atmosphere. Sometimes he'd work on some documents, but Lu Li never attempted to sneak a glance at them.

Yet, Qin Yu couldn't always stay free like this. After several more peaceful days, his busy schedule resumed. He'd leave early in the morning and sometimes wouldn't return until Lu Li was already asleep.

Just when Lu Li was beginning to think that this peaceful life might continue indefinitely, Parting Sorrow suddenly sent him a message.
