Xu Ran led the two children into the house. Their eyes were red and filled with unshed tears, though they remained silent.

He lifted them both and seated them on the bed side by side, using his sleeve to wipe their tears. However, the fabric was so coarse that it only made their faces redder, prompting Xu Ran to pull his hand back, frustrated.

Tangtang and Guoguo could tell that something was different about their daddy today. In the past, he would rush out to protect them when they were bullied, but he had never hugged them or wiped their tears before. Despite the sting on their faces from his rough touch, their hearts swelled with joy.

Tangtang hopped down from the bed. "Daddy, don't cry. Tangtang doesn't hurt."

Just as Xu Ran was about to say something, Guoguo jumped down too. "Daddy, Guoguo doesn't hurt either."

Xu Ran's heart ached. These two children were so considerate.

Kneeling down, he gently stroked their faces. "Tangtang, Guoguo, you're both so good. It's Daddy's fault for letting you get hurt. But from now on, as long as Daddy is here, no one will ever bully you again."

Whether or not they fully understood, the two children nodded fervently, their trust in him absolute.

Xu Ran then took them to wash their faces. Afterward, he removed Tangtang's clothes to check for injuries.

What he saw gave him a fright. Tangtang's small body was covered in bruises—some purple, some blue, all from various scrapes and falls.

It was hot, and the children wore thin clothing. Even falling onto the dirt would cause injury, let alone being pushed down so hard. And children's skin was so delicate...

Seeing Tangtang in this condition, Xu Ran quickly checked Guoguo too. Though Guoguo had fewer injuries, it was clear that Tangtang had been shielding him.

With no medicine in the house, Xu Ran could only apply saliva to their wounds. The children, obedient as ever, didn't utter a single complaint, which made Xu Ran's heart ache even more.

After carefully tending to their injuries, Xu Ran dressed them again.

Then, looking at them with utmost seriousness, he said, "Tangtang, Guoguo, listen carefully to Daddy. Daddy has something very important to tell you."

The two children exchanged glances before looking up at him and nodding. Tangtang spoke, "Daddy, we're listening."

"Good. Daddy is no longer a fool. But this is a secret—no one else can know. Only you two. And Daddy will find a way to separate from Grandpa and Grandma so that we can live on our own as a family. Would you like that?"

As soon as Xu Ran finished speaking, Guoguo quickly asked, "Daddy, can we not even tell Ah-mo?"

Xu Ran patted his head gently. "Daddy will tell Ah-mo himself. You two just need to remember not to tell anyone else."

"Okay, Daddy. We understand," they replied in unison.

Tangtang and Guoguo were still too young to grasp the difference between being a fool and not, so they didn't show any special excitement. However, the part about living together as a family on their own stayed with them.
