Bullying
"Idiots! Hey, big idiot! Little idiots! Come on out!"
"What's wrong, fools? Too scared to come out today? We scared you off with our beatings, didn't we?"
"Hahaha… scared, aren't you? Big fool, little fools, hahaha…"
While Xu Ran was still grappling with the reality of his transmigration, a cacophony of laughter and jeers reached his ears from outside. Once he caught the gist of what they were saying, he couldn't help but smile bitterly. This small family had really endured a lot.
The two children, who had been diligently practicing their calligraphy, were also affected by the noise.
"Guoguo, you stay here and watch over Daddy. I'll go check," Tangtang instructed.
"No, Tangtang! If you go out there, you'll just get bullied. Remember yesterday? They pushed you down. Let's just ignore them. They won't come inside the house, and if we stay put, nothing will happen," Guoguo protested.
"But they're being so loud—they'll disturb Daddy. Ah-mo said Daddy's been sick these past few days and needs peace and quiet."
"But…" Guoguo began, only to be interrupted by Tangtang. "Guoguo, I'll just take a look. I won't leave the yard."
"No way! I'm coming with you," Guoguo insisted. He couldn't let Tangtang go alone, convinced his sibling would surely be bullied.
"Alright, we'll go together. Let's chase them away so Daddy can sleep in peace," Tangtang agreed.
With that, the two children took cautious steps out of the house, hand in hand.
Having overheard their entire conversation, Xu Ran finally opened his eyes. He gazed at the door, where the small figures of the twins walked together, step by step, into the distance.
Xu Ran sighed inwardly. The original owner of this body had been blessed—he had a husband who was devoted to him and two sweet, thoughtful children.
What a pity…
The noise outside grew louder, but Xu Ran couldn't make out the words amid the commotion. It was all too chaotic.
He struggled to sit up in bed. Though his body still felt weak, it was much better than the first time he had woken. At least his head no longer ached.
After pulling on some clothes, Xu Ran got out of bed, intent on checking on the two children. A sense of unease gnawed at him.
By the time he reached the doorway, he saw one of the twins being pushed to the ground. The other child immediately helped him up, while the group of children who had done the pushing made faces at them before running away, laughing.
The original owner of this body had always been able to tell the twins apart at a glance. Tangtang was slightly shorter, while Guoguo was a little taller.
It was Tangtang who had been knocked down. Seeing the bullies run away, Guoguo made to chase after them, but Tangtang quickly grabbed his arm. "Guoguo, don't go."
Guoguo stamped his foot in frustration, but the two children still shut the door and began walking back.
Halfway there, they stopped, and Xu Ran overheard their conversation.
"Guoguo, don't cry. It didn't hurt. Don't tell Daddy or Ah-mo," Tangtang said, though he started crying himself. The two children, wearing clothes patched all over, hugged each other, wiping away each other's tears in silent comfort.
The scene engraved itself deeply into Xu Ran's heart, filling him with unspeakable sorrow.
Images of the past flickered through his mind—countless times when the three of them had been bullied. Each time, these two little ones had stood in front of him, shielding him with their small bodies. They had been pushed down so many times, yet they had never let him get hurt.
These children were only five years old, barely reaching his knee.
All because Liu Tong had once said, "Don't let anyone bully Daddy."
Xu Ran, how fortunate you are.
Now that he had become Xu Ran, now that he had become the father of these two children, he couldn't just stand by and watch them be bullied.
Xu Ran clenched his fists, making a solemn vow in his heart. He would never again let these two children suffer. And as for those who had wronged the fool, he would make them repay the debt tenfold, a hundredfold, as a small token of justice for the fool.
With resolve firm in his heart, Xu Ran strode out the door and approached the children, gathering them into his arms. "Tangtang, Guoguo, don't cry. From now on, Daddy won't let anyone hurt you."
Then, taking each child by the hand, he led them back inside.
Though Tangtang and Guoguo were still wiping their tears, they didn't make a sound. Neither of them realized that their daddy was no longer the fool they had known.
