Chapter 18 - Ange, My Angel
Translator's Note:
Hello, I hope you've all been doing well.
Here you go, and I wish you a good read.
The First Night (4)
A sudden, frantic knock echoed through the room.
"Ange!"
The door burst open just as Ange heard that familiar voice.
"Amber!"
Their eyes met across the room. Amber, panting slightly as if he had run here all the way, looked just as he had the day they first met.
For a moment, Ange couldn't help but think how adorably flustered Amber looked.
"Brother, stop this!"
Amber rushed to the window, yanking the curtains shut, cutting off the moonlight that had filled the room.
Then, he spotted the syringe on the floor. His eyes narrowed as he glared at Ian, who was still in his transformed state.
"Brother, what is this?" Amber demanded.
"You already know the answer," Ian replied, his voice cold and calm.
"This drug... it's illegal. You've really been working with the Mantegna clan, haven't you?"
Mantegna—the mafia the man had spoken of before.
"What choice did I have?" Ian's voice grew sharp. "We need to preserve our bloodline. It's our duty to bond with as many Omegas as we can, to bear more children."
On the surface, the Tikaani family ran a series of high-end clubs like Liberty Bell, but behind the scenes, they were deeply involved with the elite financial circles. They hosted clandestine parties, catering to VIPs with high-class prostitutes and male escorts. And for over a hundred years, they had maintained strong ties with the Mantegna mafia, sending the performers who work at their clubs to them as requested. In exchange, they could obtain drugs, like the one Ian had used, illegal but crucial for their survival.
Those who never returned to Liberty Bell were likely victims of this dark alliance.
All of it was done to ensure the family's bloodline would not die out.
Ian, breathing heavily, began to regain his composure. Slowly, his beastly form faded, and he returned to his human shape.
"You wouldn't understand," Ian muttered bitterly. "You're not of pure blood. You have no idea the lengths Father and I have gone to, how much we've sacrificed to protect this family."
Long ago, wolves had descended upon the town and attacked its people, igniting a massive hunt that nearly led to the extinction of the werewolves. Even now, wolves were feared, seen as creatures who preyed on humans, and hunters actively sought them out.
They lived in constant fear of being hunted, blending into human society to survive—especially by bonding with human Omegas, who had a higher chance of bearing Alpha offspring.
"I'm leaving this family, Brother," Amber said softly.
"Wait! Are you abandoning us? Abandoning your own blood?"
"I'm not abandoning anyone," Amber replied, his voice steady but firm. "I just want to lead a peaceful life with the person I love, without hurting anyone else."
──And maybe start a family of my own.
With that, Amber reached for Ange's hand, holding it tightly.
"You'll understand one day, Brother. When you truly fall in love with someone."
Hand in hand, they turned and began to leave the room. Behind them, Ian's barely audible voice whispered:
"Don't act so smug. I was serious about Ange too..."
