Chapter 12 - Ange, My Angel

Translator's Note:

Hello, I hope you've all been doing well.

Here you go, and I wish you a good read.

Fated Mate (5)

"Um... Lord Aaron..."

The maid nearby fidgeted nervously, watching the scene unfold.

But Amber didn't release his hold.

"Which room is Ange's?"

"The east room on the second floor, sir."

"Got it. I'll take him there. You can leave now."

"But..."

"Just go!"

Amber's tone remained calm despite the strength of his grip, but the last words slipped out with an undeniable edge of frustration.

"Come with me."

Amber led Ange into the room, closing the door behind them with a firm thud.

Ange had no idea why Amber was so angry.

"I went through all that trouble to get you a job so you wouldn't have to sell yourself, and now you're throwing yourself away like this?"

Pressed against the door, Ange was cornered by Amber's sudden accusation.

"I'm not selling myself."

"It's the same thing! Becoming a bonded mate here means spending the rest of your life as nothing more than a tool for breeding children."

──A tool for bearing children?

"What do you mean?"

Ange's eyes flickered with confusion, and Amber noticed, softening ever so slightly as he took a step back.

"Our family... we're..."

Amber paused, searching for the right words.

"Just spit it out already," Ange urged impatiently.

"I'm not trying to make a big deal of it, but..."

"Then just spit it out."

With a sigh, Amber continued reluctantly.

"Our bloodline is dying out."

"Are you serious? You make it sound like you're some kind of endangered species."

A faint, self-mocking smile crossed Amber's lips at that.

"Not far from the truth, actually… almost spot on."

"But bloodlines die out all the time. Is it really that important?"

Amber nodded quietly.

"There are only a handful of purebloods left in our family. Besides my father and Ian, there are just a few others."

"What about you? Aren't you a pureblood too?"

"I'm… a hybrid."

Amber's expression darkened slightly. Ange wondered if it was because Ian and Amber were only half-brothers. Searching for the right words, Ange quickly spoke.

"But even if you and I bonded, wouldn't our child be a hybrid too?"

Logically speaking, that would be the case. Ange's mother was from Westschist, and his father was from Eastschist—two different ethnic backgrounds. That made Ange a hybrid himself.

"...When a human Omega mates with someone like us, the child is more likely to be a strong, capable Alpha."

"…What?"

Sure, it was known that children born between Alphas and Omegas had a higher chance of inheriting Alpha traits. But was there really such convenient genetic certainty?

Ange's mind was caught on something else, though.

──"When a human Omega bonds with 'someone like us'..."

Ange's expression was filled with confusion, but Amber's next words only deepened the mystery.

"Ange… what if we weren't human? What would you do?"
