Chapter 40 - Ange, My Angel ~ Extra Story: Escape

Chapter 40

 

 

"I'm sorry… Are you mad?"

 

Amber's voice was small, almost like a scolded child, as he watched Ange's expression.

 

"I'm not… mad," Ange replied, though he kept his face turned away.

 

"Really, I'm sorry. I just wanted to cheer you up, but I guess that was too much of a joke, given the situation."

 

Amber gently cupped Ange's chin, turning his face toward him. Ange's pale blue eyes shimmered with unshed tears.

 

"I'm sorry…"

 

This time, Amber wasn't just apologizing for his playful behavior.

 

The area around Ange's eyes, where the traitor had struck him, was swollen and red. Though Amber had tried to ease the pain with an ice-cold towel while the tub filled, the ache was likely still lingering.

 

"…I'm really sorry. I was too late to returnreturn…"

 

He should have come back sooner, but he'd noticed a car tailing him, forcing him to take a much longer route to shake his pursuers.

 

As Amber reached out to touch Ange's swollen cheek, Ange caught his hand, stopping him. Slowly, Ange leaned forward from the tub, and with a fluid motion, wrapped both arms around Amber's neck, pulling him close.

 

"...You were way too late. You promised you'd be right back," Ange murmured as he tightened his grip, burying his face against Amber's strong shoulder.

 

"I'm sorry, Ange... I'm so sorry."

 

In response, Amber wrapped his arms around Ange's back, careful not to hurt his fragile body, embracing him tenderly.

 

"Hold me tighter."

 

"What... but..."

 

"Just... do it."

 

Even though it was Ange asking, Amber hesitated. The injured body in his arms seemed so delicate, as though the slightest mistake could shatter it. He tightened his embrace just a little.

 

"That's not enough. Tighter."

 

"...Ange, if I hold you too tightly, it'll hurt your wounds..."

 

"...It feels disgusting... like that man's smell is still clinging to me... I can't stand it... so please..."

 

The words Ange wanted to say next were cut off, lost in the swell of emotion.

 

Amber did as he was told, pulling Ange into a firm embrace. Tighter, tighter, until it was as though he was holding him so strongly that neither of them could breathe.

 

"...Ah... uh..."

 

Suddenly, a flood of heat surged up in Ange's chest. Voiceless sobs escaped his lips as he buried his face in Amber's shoulder, clinging to him as tightly as he could.

 

Ange's slender arms, his fragile shoulders, his entire body trembled uncontrollably as he held onto Amber.

 

"Ange... Ange."

 

Amber's heart burned with hatred. He loathed the traitor with every fiber of his being. In all his eighteen years, he had never felt such intense anger toward anyone before.

 

—But more than anything...

 

He was furious with himself for not having been there for Ange.

 

After shaking off Matthew's pursuit, Amber had returned only to be blocked by two of the traitor's men in the parking lot. The ominous feeling that had been building inside him exploded, and he fought them off with lethal force. When he finally reached the room, the scene he'd found still haunted him.

 

"Ange, tell me everything that man did to you."
