Chapter 39: Male God Qin Ge

Some families were lucky to have even one remarkable figure, but the Qin family was destined to be an exception—one prodigy wasn't enough; they had two.

For their generation, Qin Yu and Qin Ge were unforgettable figures from their childhood, looming like legends.

Lu Li couldn't deny his curiosity about this brother-in-law. Qin Ge was said to be the only member of the Qin family who went into politics, breaking the mold for his generation and setting a historic precedent.

Marshal Qin had strongly opposed his decision at first. Despite not being as ruthless as Qin Yu, Qin Ge was equally unyielding. Once he made up his mind, no one could change it.

As they approached the Qin family estate, Lu Li asked once more, "When I meet your brother, is there anything I should be mindful of?"

"No need," came Qin Yu's concise response, as if Qin Ge were just any ordinary person.

But Lu Li couldn't miss the casual indifference in Qin Yu's tone. He had already irked Madam Qin, and though Marshal Qin had reluctantly acknowledged him, his attitude remained distant. The last thing Lu Li wanted was to make a poor impression on Qin Ge, who undoubtedly held considerable influence within the Qin family.

Soon, their transport arrived at the gates of the Qin family estate.

A servant, stationed at the entrance, hurried inside to inform Madam Qin and the Marshal of their arrival.

Once inside, they saw Madam Qin and Marshal Qin seated in the living room. Qin Yu greeted them simply, "Father, Mother."

"Father, Mother, we're back," Lu Li added to ease the silence.

"Good," Marshal Qin replied evenly, his expression calm. No one could tell the relief he felt, fearing his eldest son might have ignored him entirely.

Madam Qin, seated on the sofa, hadn't intended to say anything. But a sharp look from the Marshal prompted her, and she finally said, albeit reluctantly, "In the future, don't stay at the military base. The Qin estate is your home. You're welcome to stay here as long as you like."

"I understand, Mother." Lu Li was surprised by her words—she had actually said the Qin family estate was his home. It was as astonishing as seeing rain fall from a clear sky. But he kept his reaction hidden to avoid upsetting her again. For a family gathering, it was best to keep things peaceful.

Madam Qin gave a subtle nod, then glanced toward the door and complained, "What's keeping Qin Ge? It's nearly dinner time."

"Now, when he does come home, you should hold back a little," Marshal Qin cautioned her. "Otherwise, he'll end up avoiding the place again, staying away for another year."

Madam Qin's temper had worsened over the years—possibly due to menopause—and for a moment, she looked as if she might argue back. But remembering that it had indeed been almost six months since she'd last seen her son, she held her tongue.

Lu Li took his belongings to his room, hung up his clothes, and then went back downstairs.

Just then, the sound of polished shoes clicking on the floor echoed from the entrance, like the opening notes of an elegant melody, conjuring an image of graceful poise with each step.

Lu Li looked up, and as he did, he finally understood why Qin Yu was known as the "God of War," while Qin Ge was the "Male God*." In appearance and bearing, the two brothers were complete opposites, so much so that it was hard to believe they shared the same blood. If they had anything in common, it would be their striking looks and talents.

[T/N: Male God - This term typically denotes someone who is extraordinarily attractive, charming, or admired, akin to a pop idol or a heartthrob. The use of "男神" (Male God) often carries connotations of being an object of affection and desire, suggesting that Qin Ge captivates people's hearts not through martial prowess but through his looks, charm, and perhaps a more gentle or charismatic presence.]

Qin Yu's features were chiseled and striking, leaving a powerful impression, while Qin Ge's face was a masterpiece of refinement, radiantly handsome, with no flaw to be found. His expressive peach-blossom eyes seemed to sparkle, contrasting Lu Li's own starry, gentle gaze. Lu Li's charm was subtle, while Qin Ge's was bold and captivating.

"Father, Mother, I'm home." Qin Ge walked up with a smile, embracing Marshal Qin, only to receive a playful smack on the chest when he greeted Madam Qin.

"It's been half a year since you've visited! All your excuses about work—yet here you are," Madam Qin said, playfully tapping his chest.

"Oh, I truly was busy! But I missed you so much. And I heard you asked the chef to make all my favorite dishes, so I rushed right over." Qin Ge's words immediately put a smile on Madam Qin's face, dissipating any lingering tension in the room. No wonder he was called the Empire's Male God—a master of charming words, without a hint of hesitation.

Compared to Qin Yu, who rarely spoke and seemed aloof to everyone, it was no wonder Qin Ge was deemed the "Male God," while Lu Li's husband was branded with the rougher title of "God of War."

"Big Brother, six months without a word from you, and now you've already found yourself a wife! I thought you'd be single for life," Qin Ge teased Qin Yu, then finally turned to Lu Li, a charming smile in his peach-blossom eyes.

"So, you're my sister-in-law, right? I'm the second son, Qin Ge. Feel free to call me by my name, or 'Second Brother' if you'd like."

Qin Ge's smile was as inviting as a springtime garden in full bloom, making one feel entirely at ease, as if, in his eyes, he was no different from anyone else in the Qin family.

"I'm Lu Li. Please, take care of me," Lu Li replied. Any lingering unease faded away thanks to Qin Ge's easygoing manner.

"'Take care of you'—now, that's a bit beyond me," Qin Ge quipped, glancing knowingly at Qin Yu seated nearby.

"Qin Yu, it's only you here—where's Qin Shang? She hasn't come home in nearly a year. As her elder brother, you should look out for her, not always assign her to these long, far-off tasks," Madam Qin's voice rose slightly, interrupting the moment between Lu Li and Qin Ge.

Qin Shang, the third child in the family, had joined the First Legend right after graduation, later becoming Qin Yu's right-hand officer—a testament to her abilities. However, her whereabouts were often more secretive than Qin Yu's, and she rarely visited home, even once a year.

Yet, Madam Qin's complaint was somewhat misplaced. Qin Shang's prolonged absences from Glory Star weren't Qin Yu's doing; it was entirely her own decision, a way to avoid Madam Qin's relentless nagging. Every time she came home, Madam Qin would harp on the same issues until Qin Shang, worn down, began volunteering for off-world assignments.

Qin Yu remained unmoved by Madam Qin's words, his expression so composed it was as if he had shut out every sound and sensation.

This was one of the things Qin Ge admired most about his older brother: Qin Yu's uncanny ability to completely tune out their mother's endless chatter, treating it as if it simply didn't exist.
