"Put Your Pants On."

Ji Yanxiu hadn't expected He Mingyu to show up this late. After a brief pause, he said, "Here to see Tan Qing?"

He Mingyu's expression remained cool as he glanced subtly inside the room before returning his gaze to Ji Yanxiu. "Why did you bring him to the ER so late?"

Having been worn out by Tan Qing's antics all night, Ji Yanxiu waved his hand dismissively. "The specialists said he ate something bad on set, but the meals have been standardized lately. It's probably linked to his malnutrition."

He Mingyu frowned. "Malnutrition?"

Ji Yanxiu looked surprised. "Yeah. The blood test showed he's been malnourished for a while. Chairman He, has Tan Qing been struggling financially recently?"

He Mingyu didn't respond.

The doors to the ward were wide open, and He Mingyu, with a stern face, bypassed Ji Yanxiu and headed inside.

But after only a couple of steps, Ji Yanxiu stopped him by grabbing his arm, hastily saying, "Wait—Mingyu, the doctor said it's nothing serious. He just fell asleep. Why don't you come back tomorrow?"

He Mingyu, forcibly halted, turned around with a cold expression. "No need. He'll be restless when he wakes up. Thank you for bringing him here, but you can leave now."

Ji Yanxiu instinctively glanced toward the room. "It's fine, I just had the head nurse prepare a bed for—"

Before he could finish, He Mingyu had already sat down on that very bed. "What bed?"

Ji Yanxiu: "..."

Not worth the trouble.

I'll see myself out.

Ji Yanxiu realized there was no point in arguing with He Mingyu over this and decided to back down. "Alright, I'm leaving. He'll need a medication change later tonight, and the nurse will come by for that."

He Mingyu gave a slight nod, his voice cold. "Got it."

Ji Yanxiu headed for the door but paused after a couple of steps, as if uncertain. "Mingyu... I'm not sure if it's my place to say this."

He hesitated, then sighed. "Look, Tan Qing's just a small-time actor. After that scandal between you two broke, his life took a nosedive—he can barely afford to eat now."

He Mingyu interrupted him. "What are you trying to say?"

Ji Yanxiu hesitated for a few more seconds, then sighed again. "I just want to say, if you're not serious about him, don't keep stringing him along. After working with him these past few days, I think he's actually a pretty straightforward guy."

He Mingyu: "…Straightforward?"

Ji Yanxiu nodded earnestly. "Honestly, compared to most people in our industry, he's pretty innocent."

He Mingyu: "..."

Seeing that He Mingyu didn't respond, Ji Yanxiu assumed he was making progress and quickly continued, "And if I'm not mistaken, the whole thing between you two probably just boiled down to that one night, right? Did you actually sleep with him?"

He Mingyu's voice turned cold. "How is that any of your concern?"

Ji Yanxiu shook his head. "It's not, which is why I'm only mentioning it in passing. But honestly, with Tan Qing's personality, he doesn't seem like the type to climb into someone's bed on his own."

"And besides, even if everyone's speculating about whether you two actually slept together that night or not, with a face and body like his, plenty of people would still want him."

He Mingyu: "..."

He Mingyu listened patiently to the entire spiel, finally letting out a cold laugh. "So, you're here tonight to demand justice on his behalf?"

Ji Yanxiu: "..."

Ji Yanxiu scratched his nose, searching for the right words. "Not exactly. I just thought... well, since you're willing to come all this way for him so late, if you really care about him, why not go public with your relationship?"

He Mingyu glanced at the sleeping Tan Qing, his breath soft and steady. "That's between him and me. No need for you to worry, Mr. Ji."

Ji Yanxiu: "..."

With a smile, Ji Yanxiu nodded, finally conceding. "Alright, maybe I've said too much. But Chairman He, matters of the heart aren't like business—there's no such thing as a do-over. If one day he's no longer around, I hope you'll still be as nonchalant as you are now."

He Mingyu's voice remained as cold as ever. "Thank you. Now, if you'll excuse me."

Ji Yanxiu: "..."

Shaking his head, Ji Yanxiu opened the door and left.

Because Tan Qing had been personally brought in by Ji Yanxiu, the head nurse and attending doctor had arranged for him to stay in a luxurious private room.

It was equipped with a large single bed, a bedside lamp that could be used for calling assistance, and a humidifier gently releasing mist into the air.

He Mingyu stood up from the companion bed that had originally been prepared for Ji Yanxiu and walked over to Tan Qing's side.

Under the dim glow of the lamp, he could see Tan Qing's face clearly—a face that was nothing short of stunning.

Of all the things Ji Yanxiu had rambled about, there was only one thing he hadn't gotten wrong.

Tan Qing's face was, indeed, irresistibly charming.

Bright, striking, exquisitely beautiful.

He Mingyu reached out, dimmed the bedside lamp slightly, and then sat down next to Tan Qing.

Perhaps from the lingering pain, Tan Qing had curled up into a small ball, taking up only a tiny corner of the bed.

The clear liquid dripped steadily from the IV, disappearing at the tip of the silver needle.

He Mingyu gently touched Tan Qing's fingertips, then searched the bedside cabinet for a heat patch.

Carefully, he lifted Tan Qing's wrist and slid the heat patch under his palm.

Just as he finished, a groggy, half-asleep Tan Qing murmured softly, "Eh, Ji Yanxiu… get the skin… get the limited-edition one… hurry, top-up…"

He Mingyu: "..."

Annoyed, He Mingyu locked the rest of the heat patches away in the cabinet.

Despite his confidence the night before that Tan Qing would definitely stir again in the middle of the night, perhaps due to the exhaustion from the intense filming schedule or the persistent stomach pain, Tan Qing surprisingly slept soundly through the night.

When he woke up, still groggy from the IV, Tan Qing sluggishly tossed aside the blanket, stumbled to his feet, and sleepily wobbled his way to the bathroom.

Just as he reached the door, he bumped into He Mingyu, who was entering with Lin Yu and the driver following behind.

Tan Qing's legs were bare, and as he was about to greet He Mingyu, he hadn't even opened his mouth when he saw He Mingyu swiftly shut the door with a quick backward motion.

Tan Qing: "..."

Lin Yu, who was nearly hit in the face by the door: "..."

The driver, sensing the tension, cautiously asked, "Assistant Lin, is the boss upset? Should we reopen the door?"

Lin Yu rubbed his still-intact nose and sighed, "If you open that door now, he'll really get mad—mad like a pufferfish."

The driver: "..."

The driver looked at Lin Yu with some admiration.

No wonder Lin Yu was the boss's personal assistant. He had a unique way of seeing things.

Though one could only imagine the hidden struggles behind that talent.

Outside the ward, Lin Yu and the driver stood silently, like statues.

Inside, He Mingyu frowned and looked at Tan Qing's bare backside. "Put on your pants."

Tan Qing boldly wiggled in front of He Mingyu, stubbornly saying, "No."

He Mingyu: "..."

He Mingyu softened his tone, "Be good, put them on, and I'll take you home for a meal."

Suddenly perked up, Tan Qing, no longer feeling any pain, started bouncing around. "What are we eating?"

Annoyed by Tan Qing's antics, He Mingyu had no choice but to pull him over and personally dress him, covering his bare behind. "I hired a few nutritionists. They'll review your test results and come up with a new meal plan."

Tan Qing raised a serious concern, "Will there be chicken in that plan?"

He Mingyu: "…Can't you go without chicken for once?"

Tan Qing immediately protested, "Then I want pigeon!"

He Mingyu sighed, "Pigeon soup is for women who've just given birth."

Tan Qing burst into tears with a loud wail.

Pouting, he sat on the floor, looking at He Mingyu with eyes full of betrayal. "Waaah! When I gave birth to your big, fat son, I didn't even get to eat pigeon soup! Who are you secretly feeding pigeons to? Waaah!"

He Mingyu: "..."

Taking a deep breath, He Mingyu opened the door to find Lin Yu standing rigidly outside.

He Mingyu beckoned Lin Yu over.

With a nervous gulp, Lin Yu cautiously stepped forward and asked eagerly, "Boss, is Mr. Tan alright?"

He Mingyu's face remained icy as he ordered, "Within three days, acquire a pigeon farm for me."

Lin Yu: "..."

Lin Yu blinked in disbelief, thinking that the recent string of shocks had made him mishear. "Boss… a pigeon farm?"

He Mingyu's response finished crushing the slim hopes he still had: "Yes."

Lin Yu: "..."

In a voice filled with sorrow, Lin Yu said, "Boss… it's practically impossible to find a pigeon farm within the limits of J City. Even in the outskirts, it'll be tough."

Lin Yu tried to use this reasoning to dissuade He Mingyu from his plan.

But He Mingyu nodded thoughtfully, his tone regal. "True. Then go to the next city."

Lin Yu: "..."

Lin Yu's heart sank.

He Mingyu paused, then added, "Since you'll be going to the neighboring city, bring the project team along and acquire a chicken farm too."

Lin Yu: "..."

Crushed, Lin Yu felt utterly defeated.

Once, his boss was like a hero, leading him and the project team to conquer billion-dollar bids with ease.

Dominating real estate, tourism, and food industries.

But now…

Lin Yu couldn't even imagine going back to the company and telling the project manager that the boss had ordered them to go and buy a pigeon farm and a chicken farm.

Forget it.

No point worrying about embarrassment.

Life is just full of ups and downs and downs and downs and downs…

With a cold heart, Lin Yu left with the equally bewildered driver.

He Mingyu returned to the room and looked at Tan Qing, who was sitting on the sofa, no more tears left in his eyes. With a resigned sigh, he pulled him up. "Happy now?"

Tan Qing curled up like a sloth, clinging to He Mingyu, refusing to let go. "So can I eat pigeon and chicken every day?"

He Mingyu said, "No."

Tan Qing: "..."

He Mingyu gave Tan Qing's backside a light pat. "Come on, let's go home. Your crew has the day off, and your son misses you."
