Forum Frenzy

Beneath it all, Lu Li was someone with a passionate heart. Otherwise, he wouldn't have spent years striving to become an accomplished soldier.

And now that it was his partner being slandered, as the only one who knew the truth, he couldn't just sit back and watch. Lu Li readily accepted Rainwalker's invitation.

The two moved into the forum and launched a full-scale counterattack against Qin Yu's detractors. Lu Li held his ground, turning the tide and sending the most vocal critics reeling. With his arrival, the fans gained the upper hand, and one by one, the detractors began to withdraw.

Rainwalker was convinced he'd made the right call bringing him in.

"You really hide it well! I always thought you were the quiet type, barely saying a word all day, but look at you now. I never would've guessed," he said, thinking of the few detractors he'd been bickering with since yesterday. He had expected the battle to last a few more days, but Lu Li's intervention ended it almost immediately.

"It's not that I was hiding," Lu Li replied, "but that you all got so worked up defending your idol's honor. You lost your cool and got trapped in your own arguments."

In truth, the dispute was straightforward. The detractors' main point was that Qin Yu had no legitimate cause, accusing him of recklessly instigating an interstellar war. But how could they be so sure Qin Yu had no valid reason to attack the Federation?

Lu Li cited numerous examples from interstellar history, illustrating how the true causes of war were rarely presented openly. Many wars, though seemingly justified, had hidden, darker motives.

Take the Solo Empire, for instance. Like the Glory Empire, Solo had formidable military power and was a monarchy. However, its rulers were even more ruthless and ambitious than the Glory Empire's. For over 1,500 years, the Solo royal family had ruled the Grey River system, each king a warmonger, obsessed with control over all the star systems. Especially their current king, who had been unrestrained in his ambition since taking the throne, starting wars for reasons that were often blatantly hollow, merely concealing his true motives. All galaxies had grown so accustomed to Solo's conquests that each time they launched an attack, it was almost routine.

But familiarity didn't make it right. Over time, many interstellar citizens had grown desensitized, even discussing Solo's latest target with morbid excitement, as if watching a spectacle.

"You're right," Rainwalker said quietly, now calm.

Who would willingly go to war? War brought only suffering—pain for the soldiers who sacrificed their lives, for their families, and for those displaced from their homes.

One could say most people loathed war. Just because Rainwalker and the others defended Qin Yu in the forum didn't mean they truly wanted war.

Qin Yu did start a war, but he'd targeted only uninhabited border planets. War was inevitable, yet he had chosen a path that minimized civilian impact. To them, this was praiseworthy, and besides, they didn't believe Qin Yu would wage war against the Federation without a compelling reason. Unlike the Solo Empire, he didn't need to fabricate an excuse for the public.

Lu Li coughed lightly, wondering if Rainwalker would strangle him if he knew the real reason Qin Yu had attacked the Federation was because of him.

Originally, he hadn't planned to reveal his identity*, at least not yet. And now, he was even more determined to keep it a secret.

[T/N: He means his identity, as their idol's wife, not his other secret identity. That makes a lot of secrets.]

Perhaps someday, if he and Rainwalker grew closer, he might disclose it.

Logging off from the star network, Lu Li stood up, stretching his stiff and sore limbs—a downside of his weaker constitution.

Each time he logged into the network, he had a limit of five hours before it started impacting his body.

Lu Li envied Rainwalker, who boasted an A-level physique. He said he could go without food or water for days without issue.

Nodding to a passing servant, Lu Li strolled into the garden. It was vast—three times the size of any basketball court he'd ever seen in his previous life.

Lu Li, in his past life, had been an orphan in the modern world. He'd died in a car accident, only to be reborn in the Federation, memories intact, as a young child. At the time, he thought it was a gift from the heavens.

But that was over twenty years ago. The longer he lived here, the more those old memories faded, leaving only hazy fragments.

Winter had passed, and now spring had quietly arrived, bringing a vibrant bloom of flowers.

The garden was alive with blossoms, their petals shimmering in the daylight and swaying softly in the breeze. It was breathtaking.

The flowers were tended by Old Wu, a retired soldier with only one arm who had worked here for over forty years. Despite a few strands of gray in his hair, he was still strong, looking no older than fifty.

In the Glory Empire, the average lifespan was 250 years; youth was considered under sixty, middle-aged was up to 120, and only beyond that were you considered elderly. Some, especially those with strong constitutions, didn't enter old age until 150. Lu Li knew that the longest-living person in the Federation, a general with S-level physique and mental strength, had reached 322.

Lu Li was the most unoccupied resident of the villa. With time on his hands, he often wandered through the garden, occasionally helping water the plants. At first, Old Wu wouldn't accept his help, but as they grew familiar, the old gardener came to see him as approachable and even struck up the occasional conversation.

Old Wu knew many varieties of flowers, their characteristics, how to care for them, how much water they needed daily, and the type of soil each required.

Over time, Lu Li learned quite a bit about these plants from him.

"I hear the general will be back in a few days," Old Wu remarked suddenly, smiling. "The general is a good man."

Lu Li paused, then nodded. "Yes, he is."

Qin Yu would be returning soon, and Lu Li found himself unsure of how to face him.

"If it weren't for the general, who knows where I'd be now? Maybe begging on the streets with a broken bowl, instead of living this peaceful life. Many of my comrades, too, would have been displaced, their families torn apart," Old Wu said with a look of gratitude. "I hope you'll treat the general well and not let him down."

"I will," Lu Li replied softly, lowering his head.
