You Are My Beloved

Beyond the transparent windows of the warship, the vast, boundless universe stretched endlessly.

It was daytime. Star clusters spread across the distance, and beyond them lay an endless darkness, as deep as a devouring black hole, filled with unknown dangers—a stark reminder that they were in the cold reaches of outer space.

Every five meters along the corridor, two tall, expressionless soldiers stood at attention, each saluting Qin Yu as he passed. The metal walls and somber atmosphere gave an impression of strict discipline, and though the place was full of people, the starship was eerily silent, an impenetrable fortress.

Lu Li noticed that each soldier bore the same emblem on their shoulder: two crossed silver swords with a sharp silhouette at the center, gleaming coldly. He'd heard descriptions of the Glory Empire's emblem, but only now did he believe he was truly on the Empire's flagship.

The medical bay was equipped with advanced technology, and the examination results appeared swiftly.

Lu Li truly had amnesia.

The blow to his head hadn't been the mild bump An Ming had described, leaving An Ming utterly disappointed. How could Lu Li be so lucky?

Qin Yu inquired about his condition with the military doctor.

Lu Li's case was unusual. His memory loss wasn't due to nerve compression from a blood clot but from a part of his cerebral cortex being damaged.

There were two ways to recover his memories. The first was to wait for a natural recovery, which was unpredictable—it could return the next day, in a month, in a year, or possibly never.

The second option was treatment using a medical device to stimulate the brain and restore his memories quickly. However, the human brain was delicate, and such treatment carried risks.

Even in this era of advanced interstellar technology, research on the brain remained limited, leaving it a mysterious domain for humankind to explore.

The military doctor temporarily advised against the second option.

Lu Li now acknowledged that he'd lost his memories, and the feeling was unbearable.

Everyone around him knew his story, except for him. He wasn't someone who felt an intense need to control everything around him, yet this situation left him uneasy.

"Then let's leave it at that," Qin Yu said calmly, guiding Lu Li out of the infirmary.

Both the military doctor and An Ming could tell that the General's words were directed at them.

The doctor remained indifferent—he'd already guessed as much when the General personally came to inquire about Lu Li's head injury.

An Ming, however, quickly lowered his head, hiding the resentment on his face. He had expected to see the General expose Lu Li's supposed fake amnesia, only to realize it was real. What surprised him even more was that the General, due to his memory loss, no longer intended to pursue the matter. A man like that didn't deserve to stand by the General's side! Though these thoughts plagued him, he didn't dare defy the General's words.

Following Qin Yu back to his quarters, Lu Li barely had a chance to settle in when food was brought in.

He gave Qin Yu a surprised glance. He hadn't even noticed when he'd given the order. The food was clearly prepared for two, though there seemed to be an overabundance of porridge.

"For the next couple of days, stick to easily digestible food," Qin Yu explained, noticing his gaze.

Lu Li wanted to say that it was his head that was injured, not his stomach, but seeing that unfamiliar, calm face, he couldn't bring himself to say it. Remembering that they were legally married only made him feel even more awkward. Before losing his memories, what could he have possibly been thinking? How could he have married a man like this?

Qin Yu's gaze suddenly lifted, his dark eyes catching the hint of inner conflict in Lu Li's. His expression remained as piercing as ever. Setting down his fork, he said, "My name is Qin Yu."

"Huh?" Lu Li didn't immediately respond. Only when he met Qin Yu's unwavering gaze did he realize it was an introduction. Just as he was about to respond, Qin Yu added another line.

"I'm your legal partner."

"..."

After lunch, Qin Yu had business to attend to. Before leaving, he instructed, "Rest here. If you need anything, go directly to An Ming."

Hearing An Ming's name, Lu Li suddenly remembered something. "Before I lost my memory… did something happen?"

"Why do you ask?"

Lu Li repeated what An Ming had said. If nothing had happened, why would he have spoken like that? "Do I have to provide you with some kind of explanation?"

Lu Li watched Qin Yu's expression, hoping to find some clue, but he overestimated his ability and underestimated Qin Yu's stoic bearing. His face betrayed no hint of emotion; even if it had, Lu Li wouldn't have noticed.

"You don't need to explain anything to me, nor pay attention to others. All you need to know is that you are my beloved. This fact won't change, now or in the future." Qin Yu's gaze was intense, his eyes filled with such depth that Lu Li felt a tremor in his heart.

Lu Li's fingers trembled slightly. "But I have no memory of how we met."

"If you want to know, I'll tell you when I return."

"...I have one last question."

"Go ahead."

"Where are we heading?"

"To Star MA01."
