My mother was none other than Snow White, the queen of the lush and verdant kingdom of Green Valley. Born a princess of this realm, she was once hunted by her wicked stepmother, the Mirror Witch, who seized her father's life and usurped the kingdom's throne. With the help of seven elves and my father—who, at the time, was the second prince of a neighboring kingdom—my mother captured the witch and restored order. She married my father, crowning him king, and for a time, all seemed well.

 

But on the day of her wedding, my mother made a grave mistake. As a cruel spectacle for the guests, she forced the Mirror Witch to wear burning iron shoes and dance until her death. Writhing in agony, the witch cursed her merciless stepchild, casting a spell so strong that no one could ever hope to break it—a curse wrought with her very life.

 

Yet, my mother did not bear the burden of that curse herself. It was passed down, already nestled within her, to me—the child she had been carrying.
