Chapter 5 - Ange, My Angel

Translator's Note:

Hello, I hope you've all been doing well.

Here you go, and I wish you a good read.

Encounter (5)

"Excuse me, where do you think you're taking him?" the young man's voice cut through the haze, snapping Ange back to reality.

"Where? To the office, obviously. You know the drill."

As soon as the man said that, the young stranger stepped forward, taking Ange's arm and pulling him protectively towards himself.

"That won't be possible. This person already works at our shop."

—What?

Ange's eyes widened in surprise, just as the man's voice rose in irritation.

"What the hell are you talking about? No way! This guy was just saying he hasn't paid the territory fee and that he's out here picking up customers!"

"That's because he works for us, and we're already paying the fee. Mantegna gets their cut from us every month."

The young man, who had seemed flustered when he first appeared, now spoke with a calm, commanding tone that carried an unexpected weight. Ange stole a glance up at him, noticing how the passing car lights reflected off his amber eyes, turning them golden for a moment.

Those bright eyes, with their dark pupils at the center, sent a piercing stare towards the man. It was so intense and chilling that Ange shivered at its beauty—and its threat.

The man, who had been acting tough moments earlier, visibly faltered and took a step back, unnerved.

"Alright, alright! If he's working for your shop, I've got no complaints," he muttered hastily before retreating in a hurry.

As the man's figure disappeared into the distance, the young stranger turned back to Ange, meeting his gaze and giving him a warm, friendly smile.

Those amber eyes no longer glowed gold.

"That was close. Someone like you shouldn't be hanging around here—it's dangerous. You should head home before—"

"What are you talking about?" Ange interrupted, cutting him off abruptly.

"Dangerous? I was just about to land a job, and now you've gone and ruined everything with your so-called 'help!'" Ange shot back, his frustration evident.

The young man's amber eyes widened slightly in surprise at Ange's words. The colors—yellow, gold, maroon, and copper—seemed to swirl and ripple within his irises.

—There it is again…

That strange, mesmerizing color. Ange felt like he was being drawn into those eyes, as if he could lose himself completely within their depths.

"Your eyes… they're such a beautiful color."

"…What?"

The words Ange had wanted to say were spoken by the young man first, leaving him flustered. His face grew hot.

"Were you really planning to pick up customers here?" the young man asked, still gazing at Ange intently.

"That's right. The guy just now offered me a good deal, and I was about to go with him, but you interfered."

Hearing this, the young man's brows furrowed slightly, a look of concern shadowing his features.

"But you don't know what could've happened to you with the mafia. It's dangerous."

"That man said I could get top-tier clients," Ange retorted, but the amber eyes now flashed with a hint of anger.

"Top-tier clients? Sure, from his perspective. But you have no idea what you might have been walking into. It could be some rich pervert who would keep you locked up, dope you with drugs for the rest of your life, or worse—you could end up dead, your organs sold on the black market."

His words were sharp, cutting through the air with intensity. After a pause, he exhaled softly, the tension between them palpable.
